Commercial Litigation
Justin de Vries is an experienced litigator who spent 15 years litigating commercial cases with Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP as an associate and a partner. He was also a member of that firm’s Toronto Management Committee.
Justin routinely advises businesses and individuals on a variety of business topics both inside and outside the court room. Clients include banks, trust companies and multinational companies as well as clients hailing from as far away as Malaysia, Germany, and Singapore and closer to home in the United States.
Justin has arbitrated commercial disputes as well as appeared before all levels of the Ontario Court and the Federal Court of Canada, including the Tax Court of Canada. He has also responded to leave applications before the Supreme Court of Canada. Litigated commercial claims include:
- Complex contractual disputes
- Misrepresentation and economic torts
- Copyright infringement of intellectual property and computer software
- Product liability claims
- Employee breach of fiduciary duty and confidence and interim injunctions
- Wrongful dismissal
Justin was a contributing editor to Watson & McGowan, Ontario Civil Practice, a leading text in Ontario on the Rules of Civil Procedure, for 15 years. He was also an instructor with Law Society of Upper Canada bar admission course for 5 years. Justin has also acted as a court appointed pre-trial judge, pro-bono disciplinary counsel for the Law Society of Upper Canada, and was a Fox Scholar at the Inns of Court in London, England.
